I'm taking over the notes for our FR5 coupon inspection station. The screenshots show a call to a routine called CheckFixture, but I can't find that routine in the handover folder. The integrator is still around. I'd like to ask for the missing pieces without pretending I know which pieces there are.

Have you got an actual program backup?

There's a zip called handover. Mostly images and a PDF. I haven't found a program export inside it.

Then start by requesting that, matched to the installed version.

Ask the integrator to walk through the installed job with you and identify every external dependency. Include the ordinary PLC exchange and the fixture setup. A program export alone will not explain those.

No, but screenshots alone won't let him follow the missing routine either.

I've asked for both. The integrator says CheckFixture is included in their working copy. They want to compare that copy with the station before sending it.

Sensible. Which copy produced your screenshots?

That comparison matters. I've been handed a perfectly readable folder from before a fixture change, then lost ages trying to understand why none of the sensor names matched. Nobody was hiding anything, they just exported the convenient copy.

Victor, the screenshots came from an earlier trial. Integrator checked and said that directly. The station now uses a different fixture-check routine, so I was chasing an old name.

Are the old pictures being removed from the current handover?

Keep them archived, surely. Just don't present them as current.

An archive is useful if it is clearly separate. For the current handover, I would want the installed revision identified on the program export and on the explanatory notes.

I've moved the trial material into a labelled old-trial folder. Current folder has the checked export, but the explanation of the PLC exchange is still missing.

Who is writing that missing explanation?

And can someone other than its author follow it?

Ben, don't be embarrassed to stop the walkthrough at the first unexplained signal. I nodded through one and then had to ask the same question by phone, with a queue of people waiting behind me. Not my proudest bit of preparation.

Integrator is writing it, and maintenance will go through it with me. I already stopped at 'fixture valid'. It meant a stored setup check, not the live part-present signal I had assumed. Thanks, Emma. I needed that nudge.

That confusion belongs in the notes. You won't be its last customer.
