I am comparing two FR5 tooling quotes for our housing transfer. Both use the housing weight to justify the choice. Long fingers, an adapter and fittings are on the drawings but missing from the load summary. I would like the whole assembly checked before we commit.
Ask them to weigh or calculate the complete tool and part, then provide the centre of gravity and inertia information needed for the manufacturer's load assessment.
One supplier sent a revised total with the fingers included but left out the adapter. I sent the assembly drawing back with every carried item marked. Not a very glamorous planning task, but apparently necessary.
They were quoting different finger lengths. We now have one defined access requirement and complete assemblies for each proposal. Our tooling lead owns later changes. The supplier load assessments are still outstanding, so price comparison waits.
