Bench samples of my steel sensor bracket don't sit consistently in the proposed FR10 inspection nest. The CAD view has several convincing-looking contacts and somebody wants a stronger clamp. I don't know whether those contacts are locating the bracket or competing to locate it. What should I ask the designer to explain before approving tooling?
What changes before the clamp acts, and which contacts does the designer intend to locate rather than guide or support? Record those separately; extra force would not explain inconsistent unclamped seating.
The variation is already there with the clamp open. Two samples rock on different diagonal pairs of contacts. I can show that on the bench, but I don't have a drawing assigning each contact its job.
Send those identified sample observations with the request for contact roles and their relationship to the inspection datum. The diagonal pairs are useful evidence, but do not alone establish which contact should change.
