The cup lands across our carton seam

I've pulled a crowned lid, a printed one and our ordinary brown carton. All packed. The seam position wanders more than I realised when I looked along the stack.

We had a packer move the tape to suit a pickup trial once, so I would tell them these samples must stay as supplied.

Exactly. Otherwise you've bought a robot plus a permanent favour from packing.

Supplier tried our cartons. The cup on the join leaked on two lids; the same cartons held away from it during their stationary check. They're proposing a different cup layout now.

Ask who checks the usable pickup area when carton dimensions change. The revised layout may solve this seam position but leave your changeover staff without a clear rule for the next carton.

Did they get as far as releasing the printed carton, David? Ours can hang on after the move, and everyone watches the pickup because that's where the excitement usually is.

Not yet. Good catch on release, Priya. I've added that to the trial, and Theo's changeover question is going to our packaging lead as well.

I'd want someone from packing there. Not to give a presentation, just to point out when a carton has been lovingly straightened for the camera.

Packing lead is joining it. We're keeping the seam-fouling layout off the quote; replacement layout still needs the transfer and release work. At least the first leak wasn't our imagination.
