The faster sleeve demo starts with somebody else's tray work

I watched the FR10 bearing-sleeve transfer demonstration twice before noticing the source tray was specially loaded. The other candidate used our workshop tray and showed the operator sorting out an awkward sleeve. My notes made that second demonstration sound worse, though it may simply have shown more of the job. For the shortlist I want the same start and finish, including tray exchange. What did your comparison include before you trusted the times?

Incoming tray condition and destination condition. Also who returns the empties. A polished transfer can leave a surprising amount of work at either end.

What was awkward about the sleeve, Caleb? Was it within your normal incoming range?

It was leaning in a worn pocket, within the trays our operator currently accepts. The FR10 demonstration used a new insert. That difference wasn't mentioned in my first comparison.

We priced fresh inserts for a transfer proposal and nearly forgot that someone had to identify and replace the old ones, so include that changeover work if new inserts are a real option.

And ask your tray supplier whether those inserts fit all the trays you actually own.

We sampled our tray stock. Two tray variants need different inserts, and the replacement cost is now quoted. Both suppliers have repeated the comparison with identified trays, including one exchange and the same receiving arrangement.

Which option left the operator with less work over the whole comparison?

The new-insert option handled the sleeves more consistently, but preparing and exchanging the inserts used the saving on this order. We haven't dropped it; it may suit repeated orders better. I have removed my original speed ranking.

Thanks for the awkward-sleeve detail. That makes the original films much easier to understand.

Can the operator identify the two insert variants without trying them in a tray?
