Our gripper selection for Fairino FR5 handling a coated round housing during transferring finished cylindrical parts into trays in a finished-parts handling station needs a clearer comparison. Bench samples show marks on the visible cylindrical finish, and the supplier has proposed softer pads.
Since we haven't agreed an appearance method, I'd like to establish one alongside an assessment of holding and release.
Does the customer have an appearance inspection method? Get that and the cosmetic zones on the drawing beside the samples before comparing pad materials.
@RebeccaAdams0169 The exterior cylinder is labelled visible on the drawing. We've only got phone photos in workshop lighting, with no link to the customer's viewing procedure.
Request that procedure and compare handled samples with untouched references under it. A softer pad is worth including as a candidate to reduce marking.
I'd qualify the softer-pad suggestion. Debris retention and dragging during release can matter, so softness alone could lead the comparison in the wrong direction.
You're right about the emphasis. The comparison needs contact geometry, representative contamination and release behaviour too. A softer pad doesn't get a presumed advantage.
@HazelArcher0397 It's useful, but take a before-contact photo of each handled sample as well. Two pieces from the same batch needn't have identical incoming marks.
@ImranAli0218 The comparison method is clear now: customer appearance criteria plus handling assessment. My selection-planning question is answered; the gripper choice will depend on those results.
