Is that alternative being checked against the same packed construction and ordinary partial orders? The changed path needs a supported carton throughout placement and withdrawal, not only in the final layer view.

I would also keep the lower count and extra pallet exchanges in the comparison, if that straight arrangement changes them. Simpler tooling may be worthwhile, but its work cannot be compared with the original pattern's optimistic count.
