Have I taught the start button and missed the rest?

I handed over an FR5 sorting job for small aluminium housings. Operators can start the saved routine, but an empty pocket or interrupted run brings them straight back to me. Looking at my notes, I mostly documented the successful path. I want to go back through it with them. What should we capture so the recovery decisions don't depend on remembering what I said beside the bench?

Start with the interruptions they've actually seen and write down the visible state, the approved response and the person responsible when that response doesn't apply. Have operators walk through those cases with you during authorised training. Ambiguous part and job states need an escalation route, not a guessed restart instruction.

Reading this back, I think I made asking for help sound like they'd failed the training. That's on me. I've changed my draft so recognising an uncertain state and stopping to ask is one of the things we practise, not an awkward footnote.

And make sure the named help is actually available on that shift. I've seen a perfectly sensible escalation list turn into 'ring the person on holiday', then everybody invents a workaround. A backup contact matters as much as the first name.

Can they explain the uncertain case without borrowing your wording? That is what I would listen for.

Not sure yet, I've been doing too much of the talking. I'll ask them to describe it first in tomorrow's session. That's a useful way to catch where my notes make sense only to me.
