Supplier showed a vacuum pickup on a smooth carton lid. Our dispatch cartons arrive printed, taped and with the joint in different positions. Same nominal size, different contact surface. Need a trial request that covers what packing actually sends us, including the less photogenic boxes
Send identified examples of those surfaces and the intended filled cartons. Ask them to assess the real pickup areas, transfer and release, with the awkward conditions kept visible
We have plain board, heavy print and tape crossing the proposed cup area. Filled examples are available. The demo box was empty and had no centre joint under the cup
Our trial box was picked up before it had been taped, and the finished box put a ridge straight across the cup, so I'd have packing make the samples exactly as they leave the bench
Could the cup land away from the joint, or would that require somebody to orient every box first? I'd compare that before assuming a new cup is the answer.
Orientation could be a sensible option if it is cheap, but put the handling time in its price; a lovely vacuum concept can quietly arrive with a person turning every carton in front of it.
Maya, avoiding the joint would require controlled orientation. Jasper, that means changing our presentation, so I've requested it as a separate costed option alongside handling the present mix
I'd want the supplier to explain how it recognises inadequate holding and handles an unsuccessful pickup, rather than just sending the nicest lift from each sample group
Keep the trial order representative as well. A mixed run may need different handling from a long batch of one carton surface. Which do you actually receive?
Check the contents description on each sample. Same outer carton can carry different loads, and packing may add internal support without changing the box name. I'd ask them to identify that before anyone sends a pile of empty lookalikes.

I'd compare the two concepts on the same incoming mix first. Otherwise the oriented option may arrive with tidy prepared boxes while the other gets the real queue, and the cost comparison will be flattering for entirely the wrong reason.
