We're planning preparing robotic welding of gusseted brackets with Universal Robots UR5e on a gusseted steel support bracket weldment in a welded-bracket fabrication workshop.
Our old inspection notes say it looks aligned while restrained, then falls outside the drawing requirement after release. i want to untangle fit-up, fixture location and final inspection before our new cell inherits an unexplained correction routine.
This is a records review, not live welding adjustment.
@AishaAdams0170 Compare the specified inspection condition and reference supports with the historical sheets. Do individual measurements identify whether the assembly was restrained or released?
The sheets mix clamped checks and released measurements. Some don't say which. The drawing has the dimension, but our procedure leaves the support condition vague.
@AishaAdams0170 Ask quality and the design owner to establish the intended acceptance condition, then group historical results by their documented measurement state to support comparison.
@LiamBrooks0838 You're right; I overstated that. Grouping exposes one difference. Keep support conditions, fixture revision and process links visible too, including anything unknown.
Keep the revision unconfirmed in the data. A separate note can preserve the recollection as a lead without presenting it as an established fixture reference.
I had a separate bracket job where inferred fixture revisions created an apparent trend. Once the original sheets established the revisions, the trend no longer held.
Because the required inspection condition may be after release. Holding a shape under restraint doesn't establish the shape the assembly takes without that restraint.
The drawing owner confirms released inspection on specified reference supports. Quality is putting that condition into the sheet. At least that part won't be guessed.
Where sample links exist, pair incoming fit-up observations with the released measurements. That allows the welding engineer to assess associations in the context of the documented process.
i've found varying incoming fit-up in the traceable records for assemblies that changed shape after release. The association is visible, although it doesn't establish causation.
@AishaAdams0170 Present that association with the limits of the available records. It can be worth the welding engineer's attention without being described as an established cause.
Additional restraint may alter distortion without establishing acceptable released dimensions. The fixture and welding specialists should jointly assess how restraint, thermal movement and release interact.
Include them as proposals requiring the welding engineer's assessment against applicable process requirements. A fixture-review note shouldn't itself authorise a change to the welding sequence.
