Our revised fixture-exchange concept shows the FR10 reaching the brass blank centre. Gripper and open door are missing. We've already counted fixture work in the labour estimate; now I need an access drawing worth costing.

Ask for the held blank, complete tool and empty return in the same machine model. Include where the setter works. Losing fixture access could eat the labour saving you just put back into the estimate.

I wouldn't discard the arm choice from this sketch alone. It is an incomplete access study. That is annoying, but different from having found a collision with the proposed tool

Our first bay sketch had the door open the wrong way. Lovely amount of space. I'd get someone at the machine to check that before paying for a prettier model.

Door geometry has now been checked at the machine. Tool designer added the proposed gripper. It clashes with the open door during withdrawal, although the blank itself clears.

Can the base move, or has somebody already promised that patch of floor to something else?

A tool orientation change might be another candidate, if the grip still suits the blank. I'd compare that with a base move before either becomes the assumed fix.

And ask for the fingers open on the way out, Anil; a closed-tool outline is an easy mistake to carry into a comparison

I'd put the setter into that comparison early, not as the last person asked to squeeze round it. On one workstation review we gained clearance for the mechanism and lost the place where the operator put a tool down. Nothing collided, which made it surprisingly hard to explain why the new arrangement was worse to use.

Only when we walked through the job with the operator; the plan had a person-shaped space but none of the things they needed around them. We changed the layout before building it.

Beth, the base can move within one marked area. Hazel, a rotated tool is now a second proposal. Setter wants both shown during fixture removal, not just normal loading.

The setter's request seems reasonable. I would keep the two alternatives distinct until they are checked, rather than borrow the door clearance from one and the access space from the other

Moving the base sounds less fiddly to maintain than adding a special tool arrangement. Unless it leaves the setter stuck behind it, which is why I asked about the floor.

Rotation needn't mean extra parts, Beth. It might, but the proposal needs to show that. I'd dislike ruling it out just because the base move looks simpler on paper.

Base-move version clears the door but obstructs fixture removal. Rotated-tool version clears withdrawal; its rear fitting still needs adding. Neither is ready for a purchase decision. Setter's objection saved us a wrong selection.

Does the designer actually have the rear fitting dimensions now, or are you waiting for another outline with the awkward bit left off?
