Cannot price this refurbished FR10 from an inspection sticker

An FR10 is advertised as refurbished and inspected. The photographs show a clean arm, controller and pendant, but the only inspection document is a sticker on the enclosure. I want it for unloading small aluminium blocks in a test cell. Collection is far enough away that a failed visit will cost us. Which records should I request before arranging an independent assessment? The seller has offered a movement video, although I do not know whether it shows this particular package.

I would first connect the advertised package to its identities, item list and inspection report. On a used machine purchase I helped with, the clean enclosure distracted us from a missing cable that was excluded in the small print. Ask what refurbished involved and what inspected actually tested, including the results and any unresolved faults.

Requested those. The current list says arm and accessories, which leaves a lot to imagine. No report supplied yet.

An itemised list should name the controller, pendant, cables and other included equipment. Keep application tooling separate if it is not part of the sale.

Ask what support they offer after collection too, including who would assess a fault rather than only where you should send an email.

The tooling is excluded. Controller and pendant are now listed by identity; cable list still incomplete. I have asked for the inspection scope and support terms in writing.

Will they let your assessor inspect this actual package before you commit to buying it? Some listings make that surprisingly difficult once you ask.

They permit a visit. The proposed demonstration is unloaded movement only. Anything beyond that needs agreement with their technician.

Then agree the scope before booking travel.

Have your assessor say what that visit can and cannot establish. Condition, configuration and functional checks belong there; suitability for your block-unloading task still needs its own application assessment.

Does the movement video show the same unit identities?

It does now. They sent a continuous view from the labels to the movement. Useful improvement, but still no refurbishment work list or inspection results.

Did the support answer improve as well?

It offers remote advice, with transport and repair charges to be agreed case by case. Our assessor has priced the visit, including a written list of checks and exclusions.

Put that visit cost and the missing-item risk beside the asking price. Cheap purchase plus an expensive unknown can still be a valid choice, but it needs to be your deliberate choice.

Any maintenance or fault history at all, even if the refurbishment report is missing? I'd rather read an untidy service note than another adjective in the listing.

One service note identifies a cable replacement. Nothing describing the rest of the claimed refurbishment. Seller says the previous owner's records did not accompany it.

That history may simply be unavailable. Your assessor can advise what present-condition checks would reduce the uncertainty, but a visit cannot recreate missing ownership records.

Is the assessor's proposed scope accepted by the seller?

Only partly. Seller accepts visual checks and the unloaded demonstration, not the additional checks our assessor requested. I have not booked collection or paid for a visit.

We have passed on this package. Our assessor could not recommend spending the visit fee under the permitted scope, and the complete cost no longer suits our test-cell budget.
