A good price isn't answering my condition questions (Fairino FR10)

A refurbished Fairino FR10 looks tempting for our parts tray unloading setup with a molded housing in a small bench assembly area. The price is attractive and the listing says 'inspected', but I haven't seen the inspection scope. What should I ask for before paying to collect it?

What has the seller actually supplied: a condition report, replacement list, or just the listing? Those answer different questions

A replacement list. Nothing about the assemblies they left alone. Better than nothing, but 'inspected' is doing a lot of work here.

@DavidAdams0171 Ask for a report tied to this unit and an itemised package list. Make purchase conditional on a qualified condition assessment and a representative demonstration

Sorry, basic question: doesn't refurbished mean they checked the whole thing? I'm not sure what the label promises.

The label alone doesn't tell you what was checked. Ask for the actual scope, results and exclusions for the unit you're considering

@PavelAli0179 On my own used-arm purchase, the inventory caught a required cable missing from the bundle. Easy to price, annoyingly easy to overlook.

Did you ask for photos of every item? Their bundle description is mostly 'complete system', which isn't helping me much.

For my purchase, photographs were useful when matched to the inventory. Ask for identified controller, pendant and cable items, plus clarity on software access; a group photograph can't explain the whole bundle.

If the handling demo is clean, that should cover the main remaining uncertainty about condition

Too much weight on a short demo. It can show a working task without telling you the condition of untouched assemblies.

You're right to challenge that. I should have described the demonstration as evidence about the application, with the independent condition questions still requiring qualified assessment

I visited and saw normal movement and a successful transfer. We didn't see a backup restored, though. I'm keeping that blank on my checklist.

If there's a backup file, what else are you checking? Whether it opens?

Whether the appropriate recovery process can restore the required configuration on that system. Have the seller and qualified assessor agree a controlled demonstration, including what access is needed

@PavelAli0179 For my setup, sorting access permissions was a separate handover item. A folder of files didn't explain who could actually use the recovery tools.

Would you include support contact details in that handover? I don't want 'ask the previous owner' to be our maintenance plan.

Include an explicit support arrangement for the offered configuration, alongside transferable access and service documents. Ownership of the hardware alone doesn't explain what support the package includes

I've settled my buying conditions: unit-specific assessment, an itemised bundle and a relevant demo. No commitment until those are satisfactory; that answers what I needed to ask for.

Clear conditions. They give you a way to judge the offer without turning the listing label into a guarantee
