how much tool space do you draw before choosing the arm?

For a small tabletop handling project, it is tempting to compare arm reach against the part location and call it done. But the fingers, adapter and the way the part leaves the pickup position take up space too. For an early layout, what would you sketch so the drawing shows the actual question without pretending it proves the whole motion is safe?

Draw the complete held assembly at pickup and drop-off, plus the opening it has to pass through. Reach to a point is not the same as a route for the real hand. Keep it as a question mark until someone reviews the motion properly.

That gives me a useful starting drawing: held part, fingers, adapter, and the opening. I had only drawn the robot line to the part. It was a very optimistic line.
