Crooked housings after a finger replacement

I came onto our FR10 unloading job after a finger replacement and found two pickup adjustments in the notes. Both say improved. Housings still sit at a slight angle in the grip on some pickups. Tray location seems unchanged. Before we book someone to reteach the job, I'd like to understand whether the replacement fingers match what was fitted before. The old set is still here.

What changed on the fingers, Aisha? Same part number isn't much help if one set has been repaired or packed out. I'd have the old and new pairs compared while the equipment is isolated for the inspection.

Old pair has a shallow relief on one contact face. New pair has flat faces. The supplier description calls both the same set, but our tool drawing shows the relief.

That's something the tooling designer can actually answer. Does the relief clear a feature on the housing, or was it added to the old fingers later?

It clears a moulded rib. Drawing revision D includes it. New fingers came against the same order reference, without a drawing revision on their bag.

Send the supplier D, not just the order reference.

Our replacement set once matched the stock description and nothing else. Keep the two pairs separately identified until purchasing has sorted out which drawing the supplier used.

Supplier used revision B. Purchasing has sent D and requested the correct set. The present job is held. Old fingers were replaced for wear, so they are not a ready fallback.

Were the pickup adjustments made before or after the new fingers went on?

Both afterwards. We have the earlier backup, but I don't want someone simply loading that and calling it fixed when the replacement tool hasn't arrived or been checked.

Agreed. Keep the backup for comparison and have the integrator review those edits with the correct physical setup. Two compensations for a wrong contact face may be the last thing the right fingers need.

Has the supplier confirmed D this time?

Also make the changeover check show that rib clearance. Somebody receiving a shiny new pair shouldn't have to reconstruct this thread to notice the flat face is wrong.

They confirmed D and supplied the revised fingers. Tooling checked the geometry against the drawing. The loaded transfer trial and program review remain to be done. Omar, we have added the clearance view to the receiving check.

Useful progress. Did purchasing change the stock description too? Otherwise the next replacement order can go straight back to B.
