We're planning reviewing fixtures for welded mounting brackets with Universal Robots UR5e on a steel gusseted bracket assembly in a welded-bracket fabrication workshop. Our old inspection notes say it looks aligned while restrained, then falls outside the drawing requirement after release.
I want to untangle fit-up, fixture location and final inspection before our new cell inherits an unexplained correction routine. This is a records review, not live welding adjustment.
@ChenAdams0094 Compare the specified inspection condition and reference supports with the historical sheets. Do individual measurements identify whether the assembly was restrained or released?
The sheets mix clamped checks and released measurements. Some don't say which. The drawing has the dimension, but our procedure leaves the support condition vague.
Have quality and the drawing owner define the acceptance condition. Group the old results by known measurement state; that should make them comparable.
@AlexBaker0472 Grouping by restraint state won't fully establish comparability if reference supports, fixture revisions or process revisions differ or remain unknown within each group.
@CarlaAli0227 That's a fair correction. State grouping addresses only one source of difference; the review also needs support conditions and fixture and process references, with missing information explicitly identified.
@AlexBaker0472 Would you leave an empty fixture-revision field, even if someone remembers which one was probably used? That's already becoming an argument here.
@ChenAdams0094 Keep the revision unconfirmed in the data. A separate note can preserve the recollection as a lead without presenting it as an established fixture reference.
@AlexBaker0472 I had a separate bracket job where inferred fixture revisions created an apparent trend. Once the original sheets established the revisions, the trend no longer held.
The acceptance requirement may apply to the released assembly. A dimension maintained by fixture restraint doesn't establish what that dimension will be once the restraint is removed.
The drawing owner confirms released inspection on specified reference supports. Quality is putting that condition into the sheet. At least that part won't be guessed.
Where sample links exist, pair incoming fit-up observations with the released measurements. That allows the welding engineer to assess associations in the context of the documented process.
I've found varying incoming fit-up in the traceable records for assemblies that changed shape after release. The association is visible, although it doesn't establish causation.

I know how to frame the review now: an explicit acceptance condition and measurements whose conditions are identifiable. That answers my records question; any fixture or process change still depends on the specialists' assessment.
