the gripper insert came back, its label didn't

Thinking through a loan system for robot tooling. A label on the box is fine until the insert leaves the box. I don't want to mark a contact face just to make stores happy. How do you keep the part identity with small removable bits without making the fitter's job a pain?

I'd ask the designer to nominate a non-working marking area on the drawing. Not let every person with a punch decide where the identity goes.

That's the awkward bit I hadn't asked. I was picturing a label on everything, including pieces too small to read it. I'll take the size question back to the tooling person.

I'd still use a labelled return tray while the marking is sorted. But an occupied slot doesn't tell me the right revision came back. Who checks the loose pieces when they're returned?

Me for the count, tooling for anything I can't identify. Thanks for separating those. A full tray was doing too much work in my proposed checklist.
