the pouch transfer is quick, my preparation isn't

I am putting our UR5e pouch-loading trial aside long enough to count the whole job. The transfers work once I have flattened the hardware kits and put them in their guides. Then a different bag arrives and I make another guide. I have a drawer full of evidence that I worked hard, but no decent answer about whether this saves the packer any work. The latest request is a wider pouch. Before I start drawing again, I want to compare the current method with packing the order by hand.

Use a normal complete order, including guide selection and clearing the bench afterwards. Who will do the preparation in that comparison?

Our usual packer, with me available only for things the instructions fail to explain. We will count those interruptions too. I have stopped work on the wider-pouch guide.

Does the packer have a usable guide list, or do you recognise them by the scratch on the corner like half the toolrooms I know?

They are numbered, but the bag descriptions are poor. 'Small' covers two different ones now. The packer found that just reading the sheet, before the comparison started.

Fix the descriptions for the comparison. Otherwise you measure a preventable labelling problem and call it the cost of the entire concept.

Agreed. And keep the time spent fixing them visible as development work, not repeated packing labour.

Descriptions fixed and the packer completed both routes on matched ordinary orders. Robot-assisted route took longer overall because of spreading the contents and loading guides. Less carrying, but no useful relief from the fiddly part.

That answers more than a faster transfer video. Is there one bag type that still makes sense, or are you stopping the whole current trial?

Stopping this trial. Even the easier bag needed enough presentation to lose the benefit on our orders. Keeping the guide drawings and comparison, but not promising another version. Thank you for separating the labelling fix from the actual packing work.

A drawer full of guides can now stay a drawer full of guides. No need to give it another job to justify its existence.
