Why does our pallet drawing assume a solid top?

I'm helping plan a UR5e carton job and have just put an actual empty pallet under the proposed first layer. One carton's centre divider sits directly above a deck gap. The drawing underneath it is a solid rectangle. Can we do a useful low-cost packaging check before paying to develop the robot path?

Yes, start with the actual pallet and packed cartons. Empty boxes won't reproduce the load.

Thanks for catching the empty-box issue. We used filled samples with the packing person present. She stopped the build after noticing a base crease over that gap; nothing has been robot-handled yet.

That's enough to question the pattern, though it doesn't tell you which replacement pattern works.

Did the crease follow the gap when you moved the carton? Or did you only build one arrangement?

Useful distinction. Also establish whether that carton was already creased before loading.

Photograph the underside support with a fresh carton in position before loading it, so you're comparing the real contact areas (a top view hides precisely what matters here).

And let packaging decide the trial conditions. No point crushing samples without a question to answer.

Only one arrangement so far, Callum. Packaging wants fresh samples and two base positions. I've added the gripper outline to both layouts so we don't approve a carton position the tool can't reach.

How did those positions compare? Curious whether the divider location or the existing damage mattered more.
