a cheap arm quote attached to a very mysterious total

Our UR5e carton-loading estimate now has blanks for fixtures, training and safeguarding, which makes the affordable arm price less comforting; how do I compare two proposals when neither supplier can yet price the whole job?

Ask both to list included work, exclusions and unresolved costs against the same task requirements. Unknown costs should remain visible, not turn into zero in your comparison.

We did that and found one supplier had assumed we'd design all the presentation tooling, so the quotes weren't remotely comparable; now we're pricing a defined design stage to answer the biggest unknowns.

Make sure that stage says what decisions and deliverables it will produce. Otherwise you may pay for another estimate with different blank spaces.
