I can't approve either tool from the housing weight alone

Our UR5e tool offers both quote the cast housing's mass but leave out the long fingers, adapter and fittings; what complete load information should I request before either proposal can be approved?

Ask for the assembled tool and held housing, with mass and centre of gravity referenced to the flange; the adapter will be travelling with it whether or not the quote counts it.

I've requested that, but one supplier says the adapter is customer-supplied and therefore outside their calculation.

Then somebody else must own the complete calculation. Who does the integration quote name?

Is the adapter design actually finished?

Good question; an unknown adapter is rather difficult to weigh on paper.

We went round this with a tool extension. Our fitter had a drawing, purchasing had a sketch, and the supplier had neither. Who has the current adapter information at your end?

And what does the quote assume in its place, if anything?

Toolroom has a preliminary design; supplier assumed direct mounting, which won't reach our nest. I've sent the design and asked the integrator to own the complete tool review.

That direct-mounting assumption explains their answer. It does not describe the machine you intend to buy.

Can maintenance get at the connections with that adapter fitted? We left a service gap out once and paid for it every time a lead needed replacing.

I've sent the preliminary assembly to maintenance too; connection access and the load data will both be reviewed before the adapter is made.

Please give the toolroom any resulting changes before they start cutting. Ours made the old version while we were congratulating ourselves on agreeing the new one... two perfectly productive meetings, one useless extension.

The drawing is on hold and the integrator has agreed to review both loaded and empty assemblies against the applicable robot guidance once the dimensions are settled.

Who pays if that review requires different fingers? Settle it while the proposals are still proposals.
