Imported gripper: spare fingers now, local drawings later?

If I buy a robot package from overseas, I'd like a replacement route for the custom fingers that doesn't depend on the same supplier forever. My instinct is to ask for an agreed spare set with the order and separately ask what would be needed to have another set made locally. Is that sensible, or am I buying spares before the finger design has earned its place? No order placed yet.

I'd want the replacement route discussed now, but I'd be reluctant to pay for a finished spare set before knowing which design we're keeping; can the quote separate agreeing the spare from making it?

Who would check the locally made set? A drawing and a willing machine shop are useful, but I'd still ask who is responsible for checking it against the agreed tooling requirements. Otherwise the local route has its own unanswered support question.
