A door handle inside the loaded-tool outline

I'm back with a different machine from my polymer-blank sketch, this time an FR10 proposal for brass parts, and putting the real door handle into the drawing has made the lovely clear approach disappear; the supplier wants a smaller gripper before anyone has checked whether it will hold our part properly

I'd get both tool options drawn with a part in them, otherwise smaller is just a comforting word on an email

Asked for that, and the smaller option currently exists as a catalogue photo with no fingers, so we're not comparing very much yet

Is the handle actually in the approach, or does it only overlap in the side view?

Actual approach, unfortunately; the machine supplier checked our section view against their model and the held blank crosses the handle volume

Can you approach from the other side without putting the stand in the setter's way? I'd ask before chasing a new gripper.

Maybe, but don't let the alternate view quietly lose the door again (ours managed that trick twice)

Thanks, Jamie. I was picturing a flat drawing problem, not an actual intersection.

Who's going to change those proposed smaller fingers? We had a neat little tool that needed half the assembly apart to reach its fasteners. That part of the demonstration was mysteriously absent.

The alternate base spot takes our fixture trolley parking space, which I had rather lazily treated as empty floor; the setter would like his trolley back

I'd price moving the trolley parking too. It might be easy, it might add a walk every changeover, but at least you'd be comparing complete options.

And where does the trolley go during the actual exchange? Parking elsewhere only helps if it can still get to the machine.

I'd still keep the smaller tool in the comparison, once it has proper fingers and a holding assessment; moving everything around it isn't automatically the cheap answer
