We're planning loading cylindrical blanks into a lathe chuck with Fairino FR10 in a subcontract machining cell. Hand-loaded samples of a steel bush blank stick out different amounts. That's all our sheet measures, annoyingly.
Automatic loading isn't authorised. How do I tell blank variation from a seating problem?
@LucyBrooks0828 What surface is meant to touch the stop? Match it to the blank drawing and add each sample's overall length beside its exposed-length result.
@SamBarnes0594 The sketch uses the incoming end face. Its length allowance is on the blank drawing, but our sheet doesn't identify individual samples. Annoyingly basic omission.
Start a labelled bench set with overall length and the intended seating reference. An exposed-length comparison can then help flag seating differences for review.
@SamBarnes0594 Exposed length still needs a caveat there. A shorter blank with a seating gap could give the same reading as a correctly seated longer one.
Fair correction: I meant paired measurements, not a standalone pass mark. The acceptance reference needs to distinguish permitted blank variation from a seating gap.
@DanLoop Not necessarily. There needs to be a defined relationship between them. The drawing owner can explain which incoming surface supports the intended machining reference.
I've settled the next step: a labelled dimensional comparison and a review of the seating reference. That answers my planning question; acceptance of automatic loading still depends on what the review establishes.
