Why does our FR5 handover leave every interrupted tray to me?

I showed our team how to start the FR5 housing-transfer job and watched each person complete a clean tray. I thought that was a handover. Now an empty source pocket means a call to me, and a stopped transfer means a longer call because nobody knows whether the housing reached the destination. They are asking sensible questions that my instructions never answer. How should I rebuild this without making a giant book nobody will use?

Start with the two calls you described. Write what the operator can establish, and when they must hand over an uncertain case.

The destination counter advances before placement is confirmed. That is why they ask which pocket has the housing. I had been explaining it from memory.

Fix the displayed state first. A recovery sheet cannot make the wrong counter useful.

Programmer agrees the counter needs changing. We are also checking what happens if the part stays in the gripper after release is requested.

Requested release and confirmed placement need different meanings in that review.

And a case for location unknown. Do not make people guess between two confident buttons.

Please don't make the book smaller by removing the reason to stop. Our old quick sheet had retry in big letters and the uncertain-part warning on another page. Guess which bit survived when somebody laminated it for the station.

That is useful, Jo. I was about to put the warnings on the back so the front looked cleaner.

The back becomes invisible surprisingly quickly.

Who answers the uncertain-case call when you're not there?

Shift lead, but we have only trained one of the two leads on the job so far. I need to include the other one.

Include both in the practice. They need the same limits as the operators, plus their own escalation route.

We've arranged that. The draft front page now includes stop and call the lead when the part location cannot be established by the approved checks.

Who has tried reading it without you talking? That's where our nice clear wording fell apart. We knew what next pocket meant, so we hadn't noticed it meant two things to everyone else.

Nobody yet. I will stop presenting it and let them explain it back during the walkthrough.

Have you got cover so they can practise without rushing back to packing?

Worth arranging. Recovery practice is work, not something squeezed into a quiet moment that never comes.

Cover is booked. First paper walkthrough found that destination pocket meant the next empty one to one lead and the last attempted one to the other. We have changed those labels.

Test the interrupted transfer with those labels, including after a screen restart.

Added to the supervised checks before handover. Thanks for the reading exercise, Jo; the leads found a problem I kept explaining away without noticing.
