What belongs in a useful arrival condition report? (Fairino FR5)

Our Fairino FR5 arrived from an unnamed seller in China in a crate with a crushed corner and shifted internal supports. I can see damage near the controller enclosure. We bought it for transferring inspection trays; I haven't powered it. I've photographed the delivery and kept the packaging, but the seller's reply just says to switch it on.

@RaviChen1172 Check whether your photographs include the shipment label and supports as well as a wider view of the damaged area. That context would help a reviewer interpret the visible condition.

Yes. I've got the crushed corner and shifted restraint before unpacking, plus wider photos around the controller enclosure. I kept the delivery paperwork too.

Send that set with a request for a qualified condition assessment and handling instructions. Leave it unpowered; 'switch it on' isn't an inspection procedure.

Should I call it transport damage? I know how it looked on arrival, not where the knock happened.

Report what you observed on receipt. Establishing responsibility for the damage isn't necessary to describe the crate condition and visible marks accurately.

@FelixBaker0458 The restraint displacement suggests that an impact reached the equipment itself. Include that image in the assessment request alongside the external crate photographs.

@MayaChen1171 It shows a shifted restraint. We don't know the force path or when it moved. Don't turn the photograph into a diagnosis.

You're right; my interpretation went beyond the photograph. The restraint displacement should be reported as an observation for the assessor to evaluate.

@MayaChen1171 Could a power-on test establish whether the visible damage affects the equipment?

@YasminBennett0702 Even successful startup would leave possible hidden damage unanswered. The visible condition warrants an agreed assessment method before the equipment is energized.

@MayaChen1171 That's my worry. I don't want 'it lights up' becoming the entire condition report. It's staying off.

For a damaged machine delivery I handled separately, the reviewer relied on the wider images to locate the damage. My close-up alone didn't provide enough context.

@FelixBaker0458 Would labelling the images help, or should I leave the originals alone?

@RaviChen1172 Keep the originals and label copies. Simple filenames or arrows can help, as long as they don't cover the detail you're asking them to inspect.

Keep arrival observations distinct from anything found during unpacking. Same report is fine; pretending you saw it all at the door isn't.

I still have no suitable assessment of the visible damage. Our equipment is unpowered, and the packaging is being retained.

@RaviChen1172 Without an assessment of the reported damage, your decision to leave the equipment unpowered remains consistent.
