I'm helping with an FR5 inspection bench and our ordinary job request sometimes vanishes before the application reads it. The PLC trace shows it, application log doesn't.

Yes. Give each signal one writer and describe the conditions for setting and clearing it. Walk through one job, a timeout and a reconnect on paper. Holding a request helps only if both sides agree when that request has been accepted and when a new one may begin.
